  • We Buddhist Course Team Update: Norbu Tsering, representing the We Buddhist Course team, reported that they are progressing according to the roadmap for the We Buddhist Influencer Master Class scheduled in Pune in the next two months. The team, including Mela and Norbu Tsering, is currently finalizing course materials, including videos and quizzes, with the goal of completing the uploading process by the 15th of the month. Following the 15th, three RNA teams will move forward with the personalization process (00:09:40).
  • App Team and BDRC Project Update (Tenz Kuns): Tenz Kuns is working on “cattle,” a BDRC project outliner, which involves small updates requested by annotators and revolvers. They are also tracking the We Buddhist progress, noting that three or four developers are focusing on plans for the front end, and two back-end developers are also working on implementing a new “series” concept within the plans. Tenz Kuns suggested that Evan Yerburgh is the appropriate person to discuss the design aspect of the series concept (00:11:20).
  • App Team Developments (Evan Yerburgh): Evan Yerburgh provided further updates for the app team, noting a significant new feature: a web version of app plans that is embeddable in partner sites, such as the one created for We Buddhist on the International Chipaka website. They also introduced Mauricio, a highly experienced designer, who is currently working on the app's branding during the discovery period, which is expected to result in positive changes soon (00:12:55). The Titaka program starts on the 15th, and users will see that the app's plans are much more filled out due to the content team's hard work (00:14:09).
  • VIB Buddhist Course / Sherup Working Group Update: tenkal reported that their working group is updating their platform, Sherup or Vibes Course, which is a fork of the Open edX platform, to the latest Open edX version. They have updated the staging environment and are planning a roadmap to deploy all changes to production, including working on the mobile app versions for Android and iOS by the end of the current sprint (two weeks from now) (00:14:09). The team is also planning the roadmap for rebranding the Sherup platform to “We Buddhist Course” (00:15:54).
  • Mission Partner Team Update: yeshi lhundup, from the Mission Partner team in Taiwan, stated that they and Tundu are researching and contacting a top list of mission partners, scheduling appointments, and preparing necessary documents and presentations (00:15:54). A major project they are planning is the “We Buddhist One Year Challenge,” which focuses on daily life practice, for which they are preparing some initial examples (00:17:29).
  • Creators Team Update: Yash Dixit reported that the Creators Team, consisting of Tenzing Pelkila, Yash Dikshit, and Achel, is working on beta testing, which has been completed with the convention team participants and will soon proceed with monks who can provide feedback on Dharma and Abidharma (00:17:29). They are also developing a proposal for hampers for creators collaborating with them and updating the calendar with all Buddhist intellectual activities and events. They successfully organized three activities, including the Guruch activity and the “My Buddha Moment” competition, and are involved in finding teachers for the Pune master class (00:18:34).
  • Creators Team Social Media Follow-up: Tashi Tsering inquired about the recent social media post advertisement offering 6,000 for the first winner of a competition, the deadline for which had passed (00:18:34). Tashi Tsering requested that the actual winning post, shared by the collaborating influencer, be visible on the We Buddhist page, and Yash Dixit confirmed they would work on collaborating with the winners to make the posts visible (00:19:44).
  • People and Operations Team Update: Tenzin Tsering, from the People and Operations team, reported ongoing hiring for tech roles, specifically full stack and AI engineers, both part-time and full-time. Non-tech hiring includes an accountant and a logistic partner (00:19:44). The team is also streamlining the coding retreat scheduled for June, requesting attendees to upload tickets and details for reimbursement. Finally, they are onboarding a new medical insurance plan for all full-time employees in India and reviewing policies, such as the appraisal policy (00:20:51).
  • Operations Team and Financial Coordination: Tenzin Noryang added that they are coordinating a meeting with Angela to finalize details regarding the insurance and the upcoming Pune master class in July.   • BDRC Text Corpus Project Update (Data Conversion and Model Training): Tenzin Kaldan provided an update for the BDRC text corpus project, stating that Sither Tsering’s team handles the tool aspect, while Ganga Melum and Pemato manage the data conversion part. Tenzin Kaldan, Kamadashi, and Ganga are involved in model training, focusing on detecting page layouts and script types (uchen or ume). Ganga is also working on text boundary detection, where the model identifies specific text chunks (00:23:45).
  • BDRC Data Conversion Team Update: Tenzin Monlam, from the BDRC data conversion team, which also includes Denzi Gandi, shared that their main task is converting PDFs into structured XML format. The primary challenge is working with different text encodings, specifically Unicode and legacy, which current text extraction tools cannot handle due to broken or missing character mapping. The team is focused on restoring these mappings to ensure accurate text extraction and preservation of the original wording (00:25:42).
  • We Buddhist API and Server Update: Tashi Tsering, representing the We Buddhist API team (including Samu and Kabul), reported that they are working on two fronts: uploading data from the Tibidaga chanting app to the open server, syncing it with the We Buddhist API, and making it available on the app. They have completed all requirements for migrating the We Buddhist API to the open pages server (which Tashi Tsering will call the open pages server for clarity) (00:27:07). The team is also developing new endpoints for features like table of contents and delete endpoints, which will allow them to maintain and clean up corrupted or incorrect data within the database (00:28:24).
  • App Testing Initiative Kick-Off: Tashi Tsering announced the start of the app testing phase, noting that the app currently features one plan being used by participants of the Titaka chanting organization, and requested everyone update or download the latest app version to test it (00:28:24). Ngawang Trinley elaborated that the collaboration with the Tripaka event starts on the 15th, and currently only days one to six of the content are complete. Testers were asked to provide feedback on this content, which is structured to help people prepare for the December event by learning the text content and how to chant in Pali (00:29:37).
  • Upcoming Plans and Core Philosophy: Ngawang Trinley announced that the next plan, scheduled for the end of the month for Sagodawa, will be the “Bodhicatara in a Year” (00:30:52). They reiterated that the goal is to increase the number of daily active Buddhists, with the core metric being the number of daily active users. The plans, like the current Abidharma in a Year, are designed to encourage users to cultivate compassion, Bodhichitta, and familiarity with emptiness, aligning with the Dalai Lama's emphasis on these concepts (00:32:00).
  • Core Teachings and Daily Practice: Ngawang Trinley explained the foundation of the plans, noting that the Theravada tradition's plan reminds users of the three key points of dharma: doing less harm, doing more good, and understanding one's own mind. For Mahayana/Vajrayana, the Chunjuker plan emphasizes generating compassion and Bodhichitta daily (00:33:17). The intention behind increasing daily active Buddhists is the belief that more compassion and positive mindset will benefit the world, and users are encouraged to start their days by generating these positive thoughts (00:34:53).
  • Initial Feedback on App Functionality (Palden 06): Palden 06 shared a bug found during testing on the first plan: after completing all eight sections, only three items received a tick mark automatically, requiring them to manually click the rest, which they were asked to document in the shared Google Docs (00:35:57). Tashi Tsering then requested that attendees who usually do not speak should volunteer to give feedback (00:45:28).
  • Practice Section Usability Feedback: Tenzin Kaldan provided feedback that the app's way of collecting feedback could be improved, but proceeded to share their observations (00:45:28). They noted that in the Practice section, all routines (like morning or after-lunch) are displayed expanded, which is inconvenient. They suggested having a collapsible card or list for each time block so that the details only expand when clicked, making the display more practical, especially when multiple lengthy routines are added (00:47:00).
  • Translation and Gamification Feedback: Tenzin Kaldan pointed out that when reading the English part of the Abidharma text, clicking on a segment does not display the expected translation and commentary, noting that they are completely missing. Furthermore, they suggested improving the post-completion experience for tasks; currently, finishing a task results only in a tick mark and a small progress bar, but Tenzin Kaldan feels there should be a more interactive message to generate a feeling of achievement (00:48:24).
  • Navigation and Accessibility Feedback: Tenzin Kaldan noted that three out of the five tabs in the app are currently labeled “coming soon,” which may seem strange to new users expected to join on May 15th. Tenzin Kaldan also found it inconvenient that to access one's profile (to change settings like language), one must navigate back to the home tab (00:49:55). Since Tenzin Kaldan frequently switches between English and Tibetan, they suggested making the profile settings more accessible (00:51:18).
  • Reading Experience and Content Format Feedback: Yash Dixit shared that they found the app confusing initially because the text is divided by days rather than chapters (00:51:18). They suggested a layout similar to the Gita app, where the Pali/Roman script verse is immediately followed by its translation, which would be more inclusive since most users do not know Pali, and would help maintain the rhythm while chanting. Yash Dixit also found the current buttons, like the homage button, confusing because clicking them results in nothing (00:52:37).
  • Context on Pali/English Reading Format: Tenzin Kaldan provided context to Yash Dixit, explaining that the reading plan already offers both English (reading for meaning) and Pali chanting options. They clarified that the current format is event-oriented, following the structure of the international chanting ceremony, where participants chant in Pali, as it is viewed as more of a ritual (00:53:37). Evan Yerburgh added that the app team is currently working on a dual-reader inline feature where the Pali and English lines are displayed together, which users will be able to select in the settings, potentially becoming the default if there is enough feedback (00:55:23).
  • Image Sharing and Logo Issue: Tenzin Kaldan asked why the feature allowing users to share verses in an image format had been removed, explaining that it was useful for sharing verses on social media. Tenzin Tamdin explained that it was disabled due to an issue (00:56:27). Tashi Tsering agreed that the feature should be restored but stressed that the more critical and pressing issue is that when a segment link is shared on platforms like WhatsApp, the old red logo of pup pa.org is still visible (00:57:42).
  • Android Swipe Functionality Feedback: Sither Tsering, an Android user, noted an issue with page swiping in the app plans. On pages where the text is selectable (like “reading for meaning”), swiping moves them to the previous or next page, but on pages where the text is not selectable (like “intention”), the swipe motion does not function (00:58:45). Evan Yerburgh noted this might be due to the difference between pages pulling from source text and pages created via a text editor (01:00:18).
  • Inconsistent Swiping and Guest Mode Issues: There was discussion about inconsistent swiping and scrolling behavior within the application. Tenzin Tsering noted that when logging in as a guest, nothing in the app works, which presents an issue for users who want to engage in chanting without signing up (01:01:21). Evan Yerburgh was advised by Tenzin Tsering to test the guest mode functionality on an Android phone without signing up to confirm this issue (01:02:39).
  • Notification Settings and Language-Based Plans: The team discussed notification settings, noting that the “allow notification” toggle and the “routine reminders” category both redirect the user to the system settings (01:02:39). Evan Yerburgh clarified that the plans visible in the app are currently language-dependent, meaning content can differ significantly between English, Chinese, and Tibetan (01:03:53).
  • Guest Mode and Re-login Requirements: Abha Achal corroborated the issue with guest mode, noting that no content is accessible when entering the app this way. Abha Achal also highlighted a requirement to re-login and re-enter personal details every time the application's data is cleared, which Evan Yerburgh confirmed is a known issue that requires a fix (01:03:53).
  • User Flow and Navigation Feedback: Moixo Creative, based on initial testing, suggested that some user flows and affordances could be rethought to make the application's navigation smoother. Moixo Creative mentioned experiencing difficulties with navigation on some pages, requiring them to repeatedly go back to confirm they were navigating consistently (01:04:59).
  • Animation Consistency in Navigation: Tenz Kuns brought up an issue where screens appear from right to left when navigating forward through a plan and then also appear from right to left when navigating back, which Moixo Creative agreed could cause confusion (01:06:26). Tenz Kuns compared this behavior to the Bible app, which reportedly does not have this directional inconsistency (01:07:43).
  • Accessibility, Iconography, and Font Issues: Menla Tsomo expressed concern about accessibility, specifically the limited font size options (small and large) for users with poor eyesight, recommending a better range of choices. Menla Tsomo also observed that the iconography in the notification setting does not match the app's standard setting icon and that some text does not change when the language is set to Tibetan (01:07:43).
  • “Ca” in Chanting Text and Font Discrepancies: Lungsang Lungsang questioned the presence of “ca” before words in Pali chanting, which Tashi Tsering confirmed is part of the original source text and cannot be removed. Menla Tsomo also noted seeing two different fonts in use within the practice section of the app (01:09:33).
  • Bookmark System and Shareable Links: Norbu Tsering praised the graphic design of the chanting of Aidama section and suggested including a structured bookmark system for users to save progress and quickly access sections across devices. Norbu Tsering also proposed adding shareable links for individual content within the app, allowing users to share specific words or content with others (01:12:07).
  • Future Feedback Submission: Tashi Tsering reminded everyone to submit their remaining feedback in the V Buddhist feedback text channel on Discord or in the shared Google Docs. So we we will start with you know each team trying to explain what are the things that are happening in each team right now. So that you know the whole organization has some idea of you know what are the different things and different teams and different you know projects that are going on right now. And then you know for the remaining uh 20 to 30 minutes we are going to do app testing. So to you know everyone testing the actual app that we have. So to start with I think we can start with a volunteer. So who is going to start with you know what team are you and what are you working on on on the team? Norbu Tsering: team. Hello. We are progressing according to the road map for the we Buddhist influencer master class which is happening in Pune in next two month. Uh coordination team include actually I'm not the coordinator since he is on uh le so I'll be taking that. So uh our coordination team include the coordinator by Chilea including we Buddhist course coordinator uh Mela and myself. We are currently in customization and final stages of course material including videos and quizzes. By the 15 we will uh complete the uploading process and we are all components. We have all the components like quizzes and video fully ready for integration and Mela was uh responsible for system and quizzes structure where while I'm responsible for the digital asset and video component along with Tindella instructions and by after 15 by 15 we will be presenting them after 15 we will move forward with three RNA team has been told for the personalization process we have already listed the unit that they're to be able to personalize yeah this is So far progress.

So I think I can talk about it also. Um so we have uh three or four developers under uh front end uh project. So we are mainly focusing on plans. Uh yeah and we have two developers under back end actually and they're also working on uh plants. So we have introduced a new uh concept called series in the plans. So we have started implemented that part. And as for the design, I think the series part is mostly done. Uh that I can I think Evan is a proper person to talk about. Yeah, that's all from me.

Evan Yerburgh: one thing um Kungang didn't mention is we added a new another new feature like a really large feature. um Kzang and Delic made a web's version of app plans that's embeddible in our partner um site. So I think they made a plan that for um we Buddhist that goes right on the Chipaka um website and yeah Dick just shared it in the chat. So you can click there and you can see like we Buddhist on the international tripaka um uh page. So that's like a really big one and then we can do that for all our partners when they make plans and then the people who go to the partner page will be able to like see the um plan and then or the course and then come to download the app and then do it in the we Buddhist app. So that's a big development. And then uh we also have a new um team member Mauricio who's here on the call with us and he's um like a super experienced designer like 25 years of design experience and he's working on the

tenkal: Uh I'll go next. Hello everyone. Uh we are from the uh VIB Buddhist course or the uh Sherup working group. Uh currently we are working on uh updating our platform to the uh latest open edex version. So as you all know shed up or vibes course is the fork of open edx platform and every uh every year they release two new versions of open edx and uh we have to uh add all those changes on our platform so that they are compatible with our custom changes. So we have uh updated on the staging environment and currently uh we will be uh we are creating the uh uh road map for deploying all the changes on production and also we are working on the mobile app version uh for the Android and the iOS OS and uh we will be uh deploying the the plan is to deploy those new updates by end of this sprint.

We are working together firstly on the beta testing. So we are done with the beta testing with with our uh convention team uh the people who who were in the convention the participants and then after we are proceeding uh on the beta testing with few the monks who can actually tell us the you know depth of dharmapha and abi dharma. So very soon we would be doing that. Uh with that we are also working on the hampers like we believe that uh the creators who are working and collaborating with us they must get some hampers.

Yash Dixit: So we are working on that proposal. uh like apart from that uh we are also working on the calendar like we must update everything all the Buddhist activities and everything uh which would be updated on our calendar intellectual activities and events and then after we are like we work for designing certain activities and uh two act three activities were successful like guruch activity uh like many creators collaborated with us collaboration Many creators collaborated with us and one competition you might have seen that my Buddha moment in which we got overwhelming participation and we also declared the three winners and uh with that uh we are also working for the Pune master class. So we are done with that and uh so we are we are right now working on new endpoints for the open major server tab.

Um yeah and so so basically the the goal is to have more people who every day starting from ourselves who every day uh you know can get closer to uh I mean can be more compassionate.
